Date: May 2022
Location: Paraje “Quemado Chico”, Tres Isletas, Province of Chaco.
Issue: On this occasion, the family selected to provide access to safe water was the one of María Nuñez. This household is integrated by three members, two of whom are minors. The nearest water source is a well, which is located one kilometer walking distance from the house. When it rains, the well smells bad and empties quickly because of the number of people using it.
Solution: Build a cistern that accumulates up to 16,000 liters of rainwater to supply Maria’s family and 11 other neighbors. This model has the advantages of ensuring access to water for human consumption and promoting local labor. It is a work that is done in a week of hard work. To begin with, the family must dig the well where the cistern will be built following the indications of the professionals. Then, the hired professionals will follow with the help of at least one member of the family.
Current situation: The cistern was completed on May 20, 2022 providing access to safe water to 4 families. Now 14 people do not have to walk to fetch water unfit for human consumption.
We believe this action is the beginning of a better quality of life.
We will visit them to tell us about the transformation of having access to water just a few meters from their homes.
