Safe water for Graciela’s Family

By Sin categorizar

Issue: On this occasion, the family selected to provide access to safe water was that of Graciela Orue. This household is composed of 6 members, 2 of whom are minors. The nearest water source is a well, which is located one kilometer walking distance from the house.

Solution: Build a cistern that accumulates up to 16,000 liters of rainwater to supply Maria’s family and 3 other families, for a total of 21 people. This model has the advantages of ensuring access to water for human consumption and promoting local labor. It is a work that takes a week of hard work. To begin with, the family must dig the well where the cistern will be built following the indications of the professionals. Then, contracted professionals will follow with the help of at least one family member.

Current situation: The cistern was completed on February 9, 2022, providing access to safe water for 4 families. Now 21 people do not have to walk to fetch water unfit for human consumption.
We believe that this action is the beginning of a better quality of life.

Update: In May 2022 we returned to the Paraje to visit the families. We were amazed at the care this family took of the cistern. They installed a fence around it to prevent the animals from climbing on it, and installed a motorized pump. They told us how this action changed their lives. Now they use water for everything. Watering their vegetable garden, feeding the animals, cooking, drinking, washing, etc.

Date: September 2021

Location: Neighborhood “9 de Noviembre”, Bahía Blanca, Province of Buenos Aires.

Issue:On this occasion, it was not a family that was selected, but an entire community. In 2013, in response to the need to end overcrowding, Sister Constanza Roldán built 40 6×4 houses. Given the vulnerability of the neighborhood, the need arose to create a 310 m2 social center. Then, in 2020, due to the number of people, the Vincentian Solidarity Center was created. This is a space where different workshops, trade and school support, and neighbors come to develop their skills. The center has no potable water and receives 500 people per day.

Solution: Build three water filters (Octopus Filter, Stop Master, and Pura Gigalight) to supply the 212 students attending classes and 60 volunteers. This model has the advantages of ensuring access to water for human consumption. It is a work that takes a week of hard work. This construction was made possible thanks to the companies Pura and Banco Galicia.

Location: Paraje “La Entrada” Morillo, Salta

Description: On August 15 we traveled to Morillo, Salta, more precisely to Paraje “La Entrada”. About 20 families live in this locality. They have a school and a Community Center.

The site does not have the necessary basic services. The water they consumed was not fit for human consumption. Through analysis that they had and analysis that we did at the time, we were able to prove that it contained arsenic and high levels of solids, PH and alkalinity.
We spent about 4 days getting to know the community, the families and implementing a Safe Water access solution.
We installed the IO MAX filter, manufactured by the company B Pura, in the Paraje Community Center.
This filter solves the problem of access to safe water in the locality, providing the capacity to purify 2,200 liters per day.
